Pinhas Golan is an Israeli artist and sculptor. Golan is a Holocaust survivor, and his work focuses on the subject. Golan was born in 1924 in a small village in Hungary, and was 15 years old when World War II began. His mother and his two younger brothers, ages 5 and 7, were murdered during the Holocaust in Auschwitz. Golan himself was imprisoned in a Nazi work camp in Austria during the war. In 1948, Golan immigrated to Israel, joining the Israel Defense Forces, where he served for the next 22 years. Golan took part of the Israeli War of Independence, the Sinai war,the Six day war, the War of Attrition and the Yom Kippur War. Golan graduated from the art and sculptor academy of Ramat Gan and has completed his first and second degree in Bar-Ilan University. Golan's main work is "The Blocked Gate" series, which was created based on his personal experiences.
